Voting in Tennessee
Early Voting starts on October 16 and ends on October 31 - make sure you're ready to make your voice heard at the polls! If you turn 18 on or before November 5, 2024, you are eligible to register now.
Voting Deadlines
Voter Registration Deadline - Delivered via Mail or In-Person: October 4, 2024*
*Must be postmarked or hand delivered to the proper county election commission office.
Online Voter Registration Deadline: October 5, 2024 (30 days before General Election)
Note: Tennessee does not offer same-day voter registration, so be sure to submit your voter registration before the deadline.
Are You Registered?
Absentee Ballots will be mailed to all non-military/overseas voters starting 30 days prior to the election. You can request an absentee ballot here until October 29, 2024.
Voter ID: What You'll Need at the Polls
You will need to present a Federal or Tennessee state ID that has your name and photo when voting unless an exemption applies. Any of the following may be used, even if expired:
- Tennessee driver’s license with your photo
- United States Passport
- Photo ID issued by the Federal or Tennessee state government
- United States Military photo ID
College student IDs, and photo IDs issued by other states or cities cannot be used.
Note: Federal law requires that those who registered by mail must vote in person the first time.
They must present one of the following:
- Unexpired photo ID with voter’s name and photograph OR
- If the photo ID is expired, the voter must also present one of the following displaying the voter’s name and address:
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Paycheck
- Other government document that shows voter’s name and address
